performance of different tasks, whether that be interpreting the assignment question/title; planning the essay in graphics or bullet points as a list; generating sentences, paragraphs, summary statements, introductions, conclusions etc.; editing current drafts for improving; designing the scope of the answer to the essay question; editing for spelling, grammar and syntax. These tasks have some overlapping behaviours, but it is best for writers to learn them as 'closed' tasks that they do as a series of steps, in creating writing material and upgrading that material when new information comes along. It is essential that writers learn to separate themselves from their opinions and develop a multi-perspective approach (seeing the topic of the essay from multiple viewpoints, including the different audience populations) running parallel with their development of their opinions, because that is part of becoming a successful report writer and is a standard academic writing convention. Part one is also designed to encourage the reader-writer to reflect upon their current set of knowledge bases about writing so that they learn where exactly to begin changing their habits for the better. Part of that change is realising how the things that influence writing blur into one another when these influences interact. That blurring can be a headache for writers and successful writers learn to manage their production processes so as to avoid that blurring, because that blurring can cause confusion about what exactly to do next to keep production processes moving forward.EIGHT KEY DIMENSIONS OF WRITINGTopic Knowledge and its DevelopmentWriting Conventions and Their Interaction with Topic KnowledgeMetacognition and Reflecting Upon Strategies in Performance and DevelopmentDecision-Making: Including the Affect DimensionWorking Memory Capacity in Different TasksAttention and Development of Automaticity in Task PerformanceTiming and OrganisationInstruction from the Environment Compared with Self-instruction
